Ultimate Potential
The Bhuj–Bhachau corridor is an important state highway link supporting industrial, commercial, and regional movement across Kutch. Translink was appointed to prepare the Detailed Project Report for its four-laning.
The study integrated corridor assessment, traffic forecasting, pavement and geotechnical investigations, geometric enhancement, hydrology and structure evaluation, and preparation of cost estimates and bid documents — forming a comprehensive basis for implementing the widening project.

The corridor featured conditions typical of a maturing highway but with location-specific considerations. Certain stretches required careful pavement investigation to understand strengthening needs before widening. Built-up zones, junction clusters, and sections near low-lying terrain demanded geometric refinement and drainage planning.
The DPR also had to harmonize widening requirements with existing constraints, ensuring that the proposed improvements remained technically feasible and compatible with future construction staging.
Translink undertook an integrated field-driven approach: traffic analysis aligned with regional growth, detailed pavement and geotechnical studies, geometric optimization for the four-lane configuration, and hydrological checks for sensitive locations. Structures were assessed to determine widening or strengthening needs, and junction layouts were upgraded for smoother operations.
The DPR consolidated preliminary designs, cost estimates, and HAM-compliant bid documentation, ensuring the widening proposal was both technically sound and implementable.
The proposed four-lane configuration will enhance corridor capacity, reduce travel time, and improve safety across junctions and built-up areas. Strengthened pavement layers and refined geometry will support more consistent riding quality, while improved drainage and upgraded structures will increase resilience during monsoon conditions.
Overall, the widened corridor will serve regional mobility more efficiently and reliably, supporting Kutch’s growing industrial and logistics activity.
