Ultimate Potential
Translink was engaged to establish the Pavement Classification Number (PCN) for its runway and connecting taxiways to support aircraft operation planning and regulatory compliance.
The assignment involved evaluating the structural capacity of the airside pavements using HWD-generated deflection data and developing a PCN profile consistent with applicable standards and expected aircraft usage.

The evaluation required reconciling deflection behaviour across pavement stretches with differing construction histories, as well as compiling material, traffic, and subgrade information from multiple sources to support a accurate PCN assessment.
Translink structured the HWD testing around the aerodrome’s operational schedule and applied calibrated analytical methods to ensure uniform interpretation of deflection data across all pavement segments.
The assignment delivered a clear and reliable PCN assessment, enabling the aerodrome to plan aircraft operations with confidence and meet its compliance needs.
