Ultimate Potential
The existing river crossing had begun to experience congestion, leading to the need for an additional bridge to balance traffic flow and support future demand.
Translink was engaged to prepare the detailed project report for this new parallel bridge, ensuring that the proposed structure aligns functionally with the current facility while strengthening overall corridor capacity.

The design had to respond to the Sabarmati’s monsoon behaviour, particularly the variation in flow levels and its influence on scour depth around foundations. Compatibility with the existing bridge profile introduced further design constraints, especially in terms of alignment, hydraulic performance, and structural clearances.
In addition, the project setting required attention to construction access, utility interfaces, and work zones operating within a busy urban environment.
Translink carried out detailed hydraulic and geotechnical assessments to define a safe and economical foundation layout. The bridge geometry was shaped to maintain uniform traffic movement across both structures and to minimise on-site disruption during construction.
The DPR integrated approach connections, staging feasibility, and practical execution considerations, resulting in a bridge design that is technically robust and suitable for urban implementation.
By addressing hydraulic, structural, and construction-interface issues at the design level, the project positions the authority to deliver a durable solution that improves capacity, enhances safety, and supports smoother movement across the corridor.
