Challenges

The corridor runs through a mix of settlements, agricultural land, and scattered built-up areas, making alignment selection and ground verification demanding. 

Ensuring accurate field data, resolving discrepancies in existing records, and working across varied site conditions added complexity to the overall survey process.

Solutions

Translink undertook a structured FLS methodology supported by detailed field surveys, targeted ground truthing, and quick evaluation of alignment alternatives wherever local constraints were encountered. 

Systematic documentation and close coordination with stakeholders ensured that all survey outputs were consistent, reliable, and ready for use in subsequent design development.

Impact

The completed FLS established a dependable foundation for the line-doubling proposal, reducing uncertainties and easing the next stages of planning and approvals. The refined alignment and verified field data will support smoother execution and long-term corridor capacity enhancement once the project moves to implementation.

The refined revenue viewpoint reduced uncertainty, enhanced risk visibility, and contributed to a more structured and defensible credit appraisal for the stressed corridor.
